Local departure by coach or Home Connect service, then to our overnight hotel in the Normandy area.
We head to the fortified town of Dinan. One of the oldest medieval towns in Brittany, it is characterised by cobbled streets, beautiful half-timbered houses and stunning Romanesque and Gothic architecture. We continue to Saint-Malo, where many of the town’s historical sights are within the walls of the Old Town. Be sure to explore the Place Chateaubriand, which is lined with bars and cafés. We later reach Vannes and our hotel for four nights.
Spend a leisurely day In Vannes. The fortified and preserved town of Vannes harbours a wealth of architectural heritage. Ramparts, gardens in bloom, its almost entirely pedestrianised centre, cobbled streets lined with intriguing granite sculptures and half-timbered houses, are all part of the easy-going pace of life here.
Join us on our optional excursion to visit two jewels of South Brittany. We head first to Carnac, and later continue to the popular seaside resort of Quiberon, long a favoured resort of the Bretons.
The optional excursions will be available to book during your tour.
Prices are per person and are subject to change. Payment will be in Euros (cash payments only).
Our included excursion takes us first to the historic walled town of Concarneau. Enjoy a stroll around the old part of town with it ancient ramparts and discover the charm of this pretty fishing port. We later head to the town of Quimper, with its half-timbered houses and impressive cathedral.
We leave Vannes and head to the imposing Mont Saint-Michel, one of France’s most iconic attractions. Legend has it that the abbey was founded in the 8th century when the Bishop of Avranches was visited by the Archangel Michael in a dream. The island has retained its medieval appearance and character, encircled by historical walls and ramparts. Continue to the Rouen area for an overnight stay.

Only one driver on this 7 day tour with no knowledge of the country. No tour manager so no service offered during the journey nor any information given about the places visited. B B hotel in Rouen had no access for the coach to park which resulted in the driver having to unload the luggage on the road and the passengers having to carry their luggage across a busy main road ,a fair distance. The hotel was barely adequate, more like a hostel. On our return journey there were decorators painting the reception area as we booked in plus no food available. A very disappointing tour with Shearings who did not offer the services that they advertised.

The trip had a great itinerary covering the best of Brittany including the spectacular Mont St Michel. The holiday base of Vannes was superb and the Kyriad Prestige Hotel was quality although a 20 min walk into the centre. The overall holiday experience makes the long trek on the coach worthwhile.

I would have given the holiday 5 stars but think the following issues merit slightly less - our driver Kelvin was excellent very safe and could not do enough to assist but he was on his own without the normal second driver - this put extra strain on him which could have been avoided and also meant that if he came upon something unexpected such as road closures he had no one to navigate for him (at Dinan where there was a major issue I was able to navigate a route to the coach park while he concentrate on driving). The hotel at Rouen was reasonably central for the old town but it was impossible to park the coach outside meaning that people had to move their own luggage (although again Kelvin offered to assist) several 100 yards. Notwithstanding the brochure information neither of the two hotels offered porterage - this did not affect me personally but some did struggle. The Vannes hotel offered no choice at all in the evening menu although I understand their standard set menu does offer a choice of 4 items per course - this again should be specified as I would have set out a dietary choice in the options - I avoid cheese for cholesterol reasons for instance again I would be prepared to pay a little more for a wider choice. I should say that my wife and I did enjoy the trip (the highlight for us were the Carnac stones on the optional trip the reason why we booked this holiday) and Vannes is a delightful base (although again the hotel is something of a walk to the centre) an issues mentioned would not deter us from looking at other tours we are interested in the Istrian Roving trip but again would prefer an overnight stop even if it added to the duration and price of the holiday

A great deal of driving and being left in areas for too long. It would be nice to get to the hotel earlier.

Good first hotel but not easy for driver. Main hotel late change, was on industrial estate, food ok but not to everyone's liking, drinks expensive. Places visited very good, a lot of walking so no good for anyone with limited mobility. Coach struggled with aircon as temperature got to 31-34 degrees. Great driver& co driver.
